What Is Acoustic Wave Therapy?
Acoustic Pressure Wave Therapy uses pressured acoustic soundwaves that travel through the skin to break down targeted tissue and stimulate tissue repair. Essentially it kick starts the body’s natural healing mechanisms. Similar to how lifting weights stimulates the body to grow muscle, Acoustic Pressure Wave Therapy stimulates the bodies the body to heal. It’s been shown to help increase tissue repair, blood flow and break down scar tissue.
How Does Acoustic Wave Therapy Work?
- Increasing circulation
- Breaking down calcification deposits
- Stimulating fibroblast production – healing ligaments, tendons, muscles…
- Stimulating osteoblast production – healing bone
- Stimulating the “gate-control” mechanism for pain relief
- Inhibiting Cox II Enzyme, producing an anti-inflammatory effect
What Does an Acoustic Wave Therapy Session Involve?
Acoustic Pressure Wave Therapy is a safe, pain-free and non-invasive procedure. A contact gel is applied to the area, then a handheld probe is applied to the skin. The probe delivers the sound waves in a controlled and focused manner for typically 5-15 minutes per injured area. There is no downtime after each session.
What Does a Course Of Acoustic Wave Therapy Involve?
A course of therapy usually consists of weekly treatments for 3-6 weeks depending on the location and severity of the condition. Once a course of care is completed, patients only return for follow up care if they re-injure themselves.
At Plymouth Regenerative Care we combine the newest technologies with good old-fashioned patient care.
